“Will you be there?”
“Of course I will.” I smile. I reach out to take your hand, and squeeze it firmly. I know I couldn’t have done half of the things I did without your help, and I’m so grateful that you’re willing to help me. My past will soon be revealed to me, all my memories will be restored and I owe it all to you- to your continuous efforts, your never failing optimism, your constant perseverance.
Whatever you ask of me, I will comply. I’ll be there for you, always.

“Will you be there?”
“Maybe.” I scowl. I take a sip of my drink and look at you- you keep surprising me. Strong and defiant one moment, insecure and silent the other. You know damn well better than to stand up to me, but still you did. You know damn well better than to ask me this silly, frilly questions, but still you do- offering me friendship, love, a bond. You’re silently pushing, not really expecting an answer, but I can see the hope in your eyes. Whatever you ask of me, I will see for myself if I’ll comply or not. I’ll be there for you, maybe.

“No.” I snort. Of course not, you idiot. Why would I even want to be ‘there’? I don’t want to be with you ‘there’, and I doubt you want to be with me ‘there’. Makes me wonder why you even asked that question, though. You hate me, right? Just like the way I hate you. I was born from your anger and hate, that precious hate that keeps me alive and I want you to hate me because if you don’t hate me I die. Why are you looking at me like that? Something wrong? Are you crying? Are you crying? Whatever you ask of me, I will say no. I won’t be there for you. Why should I?
